Nell Choate Jones, was born in 1879 in Hawkinsville, GA. She traveled to New York with her artist husband Eugene, and he encouraged her to attend Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn, NY. Ms.
Jones started her painting career relatively late in life, at the age of 40. By 1936, she moved back to Georgia, painting expressionist works of black men and women. This whimsical watercolor of a little girl holding a bouquet of balloons and her dog in tow. The painting is a watercolor signed on the right and measures 19 x 11.
