JWA Scott was born in Roxbury, MA in 1815 and died in Cambridge, MA in 1908. He was an apprentice under Boston William S. Pendleton and apprenticed under Nathaniel Currier. He studied and painted his entire career in Boston. In 1840 he partnered with artist Fitz Henry Lane. Scott exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum and Boston Art Club. He was the oldest member of the Boston Art Club.

 

This is an oil on board painting signed on the verso. The painting depicts a bridge and measures 12 x 16.
