Alvan Fisher was born in Dedham, Massachusetts.  Fisher was a student of John Ritto Penniman from Boston.  He was also friends with Washington Allston, Chester Harding, and Asher Durand.  His passion was the depiction of animals.  The painting is in its original frame.
